Santa Fe, New Mexico
The world-renowned Santa Fe Indian Market is coming later this month. Featuring pottery, jewelry, sculpture, weavings, and a variety of other work by artists from more than 100 tribes, the Indian Market is scheduled for August 19-20 this year. If you can't make it to Santa Fe's Indian Market, remember that several other communities in the American Southwest feature similar (although usually smaller) Indian Markets.

Roswell, New Mexico
We found out about this one a little late, but if you can’t make it this year put it on your calendar for 2007. From June 30 through July 3 (dates may change slightly in 2007) the town of Roswell, New Mexico, is holding their annual UFO Festival. The festival celebrates the alleged UFO crash (and resulting cover-up, according to supporters) near Roswell in 1947.

Bike Racing - Various Venues Across America
Bike racing in America? We thought it was only a European thing. Nevertheless, there are some exciting multi-day bike tours around the U.S. Top events, which should attract international teams, include the Nature Valley Grand Prix in St. Paul, Minnesota, and the Tour de Nez in Verdi, Nevada (both in June); the Tour of Utah in August; and the Tour of California next February. The recently completed Tour de Georgia (every April) features fabulous racing (first and second place were less than one second apart this year), and has in the past showcased Lance Armstrong’s talents. Bike races and tours change dates, venues, and even existence pretty frequently. Research current events before booking travel plans.

Kauai, Hawaii
Kauai is undoubtedly the most tropically lush and spectacular of the Hawaiian islands. The colorful Waimea Canyon and the towering green mountains along the Na Pali coastline will take your breath away. Helicopter tours viewing the cascading waterfalls of Mt. Waialeale crater are available from Lihue, Port Allen, and Princeville.

U.S. Highway 50
For those lovers of romantic road trips with no real destination, take a journey on U.S. Highway 50. “The Loneliest Road in America” stretches from Maryland to California, a trail of westward-bound history reflecting this country’s growth. Highway 50 – beginning in Ocean City and ending in Sacramento – can be picked up anywhere along the way, and will allow you to feel the spirit which is America.

Atlanta, Georgia
It took us by surprise, too. In landlocked Atlanta is the new Georgia Aquarium, claiming to be the world’s largest. Also popular in Atlanta are the CNN studio tour, the World of Coca-Cola, and the newly renovated High Museum of Art, which will be displaying traveling works from the Louvre later this year.

San Francisco, California
There are probably hundreds of reasons to visit San Francisco, so we’ll add just one more. The newly renovated De Young Museum showcases a collection of American, African, and Pacific art in a creative new building. The museum has recently reopened after six years of construction.

Portland, Oregon
The happening hot-spot in Portland is North Mississippi Ave. The area has some of the best dining in the city, as well as microbreweries and shopping. Situated in the northeast section of the city, the North Mississippi neighborhood is accessible via the #4 bus from downtown.

Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia
The “Journey Through Hallowed Ground” is a 175-mile drive from Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, through Maryland and ending in Charlottesville, Virginia. The route takes in many places which had a profound impact on American history. Gettysburg was the site of the turning battle of the U.S. civil war. In nearby Frederick is the National Museum of Civil War Medicine.

Talkeetna, Alaska
If you prefer a variety of winter backcountry offerings in one setting, travel to the Talkeetna, Alaska, base for exploring the Denali area. Experience the wonder of the incredible mountain views, enjoy a glacier landing flight to Mt. McKinley, go cross country skiing, take a dog sledding trip, and most especially revel in the view of the Northern Lights. Visit with some of the locals as you stroll through the original Talkeetna town site, filled with early settlers’ past and character, or relax outside a restaurant with a beer.

Sedona, Arizona
Your search for the Vortex Vibe has landed on Sedona, Arizona. Within this mystically natural setting are a multitude of hiking trails with spectacular views to comfort the mind. A stay at the Creekside Inn situated alongside the crystal waters of Oak Creek would make an excellent base for your Sedona experience.

South Dakota
For a piece of Native American history, take a vacation through the legendary Black Hills and Badlands of western South Dakota. Home of the Crazy Horse Memorial and Mt. Rushmore, the pine-dressed mountains on edge of the Great Plains encompasses five national parks, scenic drives, and abundant wildlife. Where else in America can you still see bison and wild horses roaming free? You can also climb one of the most accessible state highpoints, Harney Peak (7242 feet/2207 meters), an easy hour hike for almost anyone.
